What an interesting time to be alive! Like most people I'm sure, I've been pretty awed to follow the news lately about the hits the world is taking due to the cost of oil.
What I'd love to find is dialogue about, "Ok, so what does this mean for us? What do we need to learn from this, and what should we think about now?" We know oil is a finite resource. That means there is SOOOOO much room for creativity on reworking the very way we do a lot of things in this society. We've built a civilization on a house of petroleum straw. I crave freedom for the people in this country to discover some transformed ways of living that have the potential to be...well, better. More localized probably, perhaps a bit more connected to the making of things required to live: food, shelter, clothing, household items, local politics. Do we realize that this country "exports" all its living-goods production? This is an anomaly I can't understand. We don't make things here anymore. We as individuals don't know how to procure the very things that give a human life! And, have let the simple goodness of doing so disappear from our vocabulary.
I don't have answers, and I know that's frustrating. I only hope there somehow arises an optimistic willingness within us to bravely think about new ways of doing things. I believe it is a good time to examine our priorities and who we really are, and I hope we don't pass it up.
Blessings to you all.
